Paying for College 101

Perhaps some of the most popular questions we are asked as Admissions Counselors are concerns with tuition costs and how to pay for college. As many of us counselors have been through the process ourselves, we know how important the answers to these questions are, and that’s why we strive to make sure to make our scholarship and financial aid process as simple as possible.

If you have not checked out our scholarships application yet, you need to be aware that our priority date is February 1st and fast approaching! Do not worry, you still have time to get the application filled out and submitted to us this week. It’s simple. Click on our Pay for College link and click on Scholarships. Here you will find information on all of our foundation scholarships.
Make sure you pay attention to the outside scholarships that are posted on this web page as well. These scholarships have a separate application and change periodically based on information that is submitted to the university.

Not seeing anything that looks helpful or interesting to you? I recommend checking out www.FastWeb.com for even MORE information on scholarships.

Along with scholarships, FAFSA or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid will be the biggest help when it comes to paying for college. Take a minute with your parent or legal guardian and make sure you have all of your necessary 2010 tax information collected and that you have created your login and pin information. The BHSU FAFSA priority date is March 1st, so the sooner you can submit your information, the better your chances are for collecting grants, scholarships and other financial assistance that may never have to be paid back. If you have questions with this process, please never hesitate to give our office a call at 605-642-6343!
So… remember to get that information submitted soon! Scholarship deadline is February 1st!
