Are you heading out to the Black Hills for a summer vacation? Do you live in the area and need an excuse to get out of the house? Are you interested in attending BHSU in the future?
If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above then you need to come join us on Friday, July 15th for Summer View here at Black Hills State University! Summer View is much like our Preview Day events that we offer throughout the academic year, only it’s a onetime chance to check out campus during the summer. We know how hectic your schedules can get once school, sports and all of the other important activities you are involved in start in the fall, so we like to offer a chance to get a sneak peak at what BHSU is all about during the summer.
During Summer View, students and guests will get to hear from faculty, staff and even current students about what it’s truly like to study at BHSU. We also provide a campus tour and free lunch at The Hive – our wonderful dining facility. Students and guests will also have the opportunity of meeting with tons of different faculty and staff at our information fair. Representatives from all of our colleges, student organizations, financial aid and much more will be covered during the fair.
Have I convinced you that you need to come? I sure hope so!
Signing up is super simple. All you need to do is visit www.bhsu.edu/summerview and fill out the registration form or you can call us at 605-642-6343 and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the event and get you signed up today!
If you can’t make it to Summer View but like the sounds of this event – no worries, we have plenty of opportunities to come visit campus throughout the year. To learn more about our visit opportunities, please check out www.bhsu.edu/visit for more information.
I hope you’re all having a wonderful summer! See you on campus soon!

Sign up for NSR, Get a FREE BHSU T-Shirt!
Summer is in full swing, and I hope you are all enjoying it! Before you know it, August 28 will be here, and you'll be moving to your new home, BHSU! We are very excited to have you as part of the Yellow Jacket family. First, however, you need to take care of some business if you haven't already done so. Mainly, you need to register for Fall 2011 classes!
If you are a first time freshman student, New Student Registration (NSR) is a required program intended to provide you with the best opportunities in your first year at BHSU. At NSR, you will register for classes, meet faculty & staff, establish relationships with current students, and begin the transformation to college! The next NSR session will take place on July 8 @ 8:00 a.m. If you will be a first time freshman student at BHSU and have not attended an NSR session, sign up for the July 8th session TODAY by completing the online registration form. We are so excited to have you on campus that we are offering a FREE BHSU T-Shirt to the first 10 students who complete the online registration form and put "I'm a Jacket" in the comments section. If you do this, you will receive your free t-shirt at NSR. All your fellow BHSU students will be super envious of your awesome, FREE BHSU T-shirt, let me tell ya! So complete the registration form today, and take the next step to becoming an official BHSU student.
If you have already attended NSR and have your class schedule all set, congratulations! You are well on your way! A list of other items that you will want to make sure are completed/taken care of can always be found on the Admitted Students Checklist.
That's all I have for today! Get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather if you can. From all of us in the BHSU Admissions Office, have a fun, safe Independence Day weekend! We've enjoyed welcoming new students onto campus during NSR sessions, and look forward to the July 8th NSR date. See you then!

Summer = Fall 2011 Registration!
Happy Summer Solstice everyone! Even though it's rainy and dreary outside right now, the sun will definitely shine again, proven by the photo to the left taken on a beautiful spring afternoon on campus. Unlike the last few days, the weather was amazing last week when we had 100s of new students congregate on campus to get registered for courses and become official Yellow Jackets. What a great few days it was seeing all your beautiful faces! We can hardly wait for the next New Student Registration (NSR) sessions that will take place on July 8 and 22 at both 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. There are still spots available for these dates, in both the morning and afternoon sessions. Therefore, if you are a first time freshman accepted student to BHSU for the fall semester and have not yet attended or registered for an NSR session, sign up TODAY at www.bhsu.edu/nsr.Calling all Transfer students! It is not required for you to attend an NSR session to get registered for fall 2011 classes, but you WILL need to make a registration appointment with Debbie Smoot in the Center for Academic Success. If you are a newly accepted transfer student at BHSU for the fall semester, please call Debbie at 605.642.6106 to schedule an individual appointment to register for classes. Classes are filling up fast, so call Debbie ASAP in order to get the best schedule possible for you!
The fall 2011 semester is unbelievably right around the corner. If you haven't already done so, make your reservation to register for courses so that you can enjoy the rest of summer with no worries. See you on campus soon!

Financial Aid – Are you prepared?
Hey gang! This is a friendly reminder to all of you students who have applied for financial aid and have received your award letter that you get the information filled out and sent back to our Financial Aid office ASAP if you are planning on attending BHSU this fall.
In order to receive your financial aid and have it applied to your bill – you must send your award letter back to the Financial Aid office so they can award that money to you. By not sending your award letter back, you do run the risk of losing that money here at BHSU so it’s very important that you submit that information to us.
When you arrive for your New Student Registration session, you will learn how the billing and financial aid process works, as well as how you will go about paying your bill. It’s a great idea to have your award letter filled in and submitted prior to your New Student Registration so you can go through the process of making a payment and knowing how to do so before school begins.
As we all know college is expensive, and our wonderful team of Financial Aid Representatives do all they can to make the process as simple as possible to help ensure our students receive the most money they may be eligible for. If you do happen to have a question about your financial aid award letter or finding ways to pay for college, please do not hesitate to contact our Financial Aid office by calling (605)-642-6145 or you can check out information on our web site by visiting www.bhsu.edu/financialaid.
See you on campus soon!
