Financial Aid – Are you prepared?

Hey gang! This is a friendly reminder to all of you students who have applied for financial aid and have received your award letter that you get the information filled out and sent back to our Financial Aid office ASAP if you are planning on attending BHSU this fall.

In order to receive your financial aid and have it applied to your bill – you must send your award letter back to the Financial Aid office so they can award that money to you. By not sending your award letter back, you do run the risk of losing that money here at BHSU so it’s very important that you submit that information to us.

When you arrive for your New Student Registration session, you will learn how the billing and financial aid process works, as well as how you will go about paying your bill. It’s a great idea to have your award letter filled in and submitted prior to your New Student Registration so you can go through the process of making a payment and knowing how to do so before school begins.

As we all know college is expensive, and our wonderful team of Financial Aid Representatives do all they can to make the process as simple as possible to help ensure our students receive the most money they may be eligible for. If you do happen to have a question about your financial aid award letter or finding ways to pay for college, please do not hesitate to contact our Financial Aid office by calling (605)-642-6145 or you can check out information on our web site by visiting www.bhsu.edu/financialaid.

See you on campus soon!

Congratulations HS Graduating Seniors

What an exciting time of year! You are almost officially college students and the start of classes is nearing. I am sure that you all have exciting plans for summer, but do not forget to keep up on all things BHSU. I am sure that you all are very busy planning graduation parties and preparing for the last few days of high school, but you may still have some things to turn in regarding enrollment this fall.

The most important thing to do is to make sure you are signed up for New Student Registration. If you are not sure if you are or if you have any questions about it, please call us! We are happy to visit with you and we want to make sure that you have all your ducks in a row before summer gets into swing. You can sign up by calling us at 605-642-6343 or by visiting the web site at www.bhsu.edu/nsr. This program is great and will really make you feel like an official BHSU student. Along with registering for classes while at NSR, you will also receive access to your email and Web Advisor accounts as well as see your residence hall!

I hope to see you all at New Student Registration!

Summer View

Sun is shining and after this past weekend in the Black Hills, I am already sporting my first sunburn, nice! The warm sun snuck up on me and I hadn’t thought about sunscreen yet, next time I definitely will.

You have to love summer at BHSU! Summer classes are in session and many offices begin preparations for the arrival of the freshman class, 2011. One of the great perks of course is how fantastic campus looks in the summer, so green.

Speaking of how great campus looks, come and check it out for yourself. We have many visit opportunities in the summer. Take advantage of some free time, or at least you’re not busy with school, to explore all that Black Hills State University has to offer. Or make a stop during the family vacation to the Black Hills. You can schedule an individual tour by calling the Office of Admissions at 605.642.6343 or by visiting www.BHSU.edu/Visit.

We do also offer a summer Preview Day called Summer View on July 15. Summer View is great for exploring campus as well. Get a tour, meet with faculty, staff, and current students, and eat lunch at The Hive. Register for Summer View at www.BHSU.edu/SummerView.

I won’t take up too much more of your time, this nice weather has everyone itching to be outside. I will leave you with a picture of campus, so that you can see for yourself, a sunset view during the Spring!

Summer at BHSU!

The spring semester is officially over and summer classes are already underway here at BHSU. Though campus tends to get much quieter this time of year, we want you to know about the great opportunities we offer during the summer so you’re able to check out campus and learn more about Black Hills State University!

First and foremost, we offer our daily individual visits and campus tours during the summer – our daily tour times are 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM Monday-Friday. If your family is planning to take a vacation to the Black Hills or perhaps you live in our local area, be sure to stop in the Office of Admissions or sign up online for one of our daily visits. During your individual visit you will take a tour of campus, and speak with an Admissions Counselor and a representative from Financial Aid if you wish. This is a great way to learn all about campus and ask those important questions that you have been wondering about in a personal setting.

If being a part of larger group is your thing, you may want to check out our Summer View program happening on Friday, July 15th here at BHSU. Summer View is much like our Preview Day programs that take place during the academic school year but in the summer. During Summer View you will get to hear from faculty, staff and current students about our various academic programs, student organizations, financial aid, residence halls and what life on campus is like in general. Not to mention, you will take a tour of campus, walk through our information fair and have the opportunity to dine in The Hive – our wonderful dining facility! It truly is a great way to learn about campus and perhaps make a new friend or two!

If your summer is filling up with all sorts of activities and vacations – make sure to mark a visit on your calendar during the fall and check out a Preview Day! Our list of dates is officially posted online!

We hope to see you this summer at BHSU!!

Finals Week is Here!

It’s hard to believe but another year is quickly coming to an end here on campus at Black Hills State University! Students are busy finishing projects and cramming for finals before setting off into the real world OR perhaps a great summer job, internship or an epic road trip. Whatever the case, finals week is the last hurdle to get over before the semester is officially over and students are free to do as they wish, and that time is definitely upon our students here at BHSU.

Believe it or not, I actually have very fond memories of finals week as a student. How can final exams, stressful late night studying and the occasional meltdown be viewed as fond memories you ask…?

Well for one thing, classes are officially OVER during the week of finals. All you really have to do is prepare for your exams and show up for the tests. That’s easy.
Second, it’s a general rule that staff and faculty on campus feel bad for stressed out students during finals week so they do their best to provide food and entertainment for students. Everything from late night breakfast to special soup lunches and pizza in the library are provided to students to help ease the pain of studying. It’s awesome.

Lastly, once you are all done with your final exams the year is finished and you can pat yourself on the back for another year done!

Spending time studying with your friends in the beautiful weather, munching on good food and counting the hours down to summer isn’t such a bad thing, right?!
