Housing Contracts

It is housing contract time!

For those of you who have applied and been accepted to BHSU, you should be receiving your housing contract in the mail sometime over the next week. Even if you haven’t made your final decision on where to go to college, fill it out! Completing the housing contract does not commit you to attend in the fall but be sure to include the $100 deposit or a room will not be reserved for you. For those of you who have not been accepted, you will be mailed a housing contract after you have been accepted.

Completing the housing contract early is important because if you have your eye on a certain residence hall or have a specific roommate in mind, you will have a better chance of getting what you want if you get your housing contact back to us. If you wait until the middle of summer to return it, you might not be placed in the hall you want or with your roommate of choice.

When you receive your housing contract, read it over carefully. There is a lot of important information on it that you will want to know before returning it. There is a short questionnaire to complete that will help Residence Life match you with an appropriate roommate as well as a place to indicate a roommate preference. You can also call the Residence Life Office or Admissions Office at anytime if you have any questions. I’m looking forward to seeing you on campus in the fall! Go Jackets!

Free Stuff!

Good Afternoon from the beautiful Black Hills! Temps are supposed to reach into the 40s later on in the week, so we are all very excited for some warmer weather! In the spirit of a glimpse of spring (hopefully), we would like to give away some free stuff. You may not think that free stuff is good now, but just wait until you become a college freshman. At that time, free stuff is like manna from heaven let me tell ya! The first three people to comment on this blog will get something free from BHSU! Ready, set, go!

Have a great Monday!

We're Back with some Scholarship Info!

Good Morning from Black Hills State University!

I hope all of you enjoyed the Super Bowl last night, it turned out to be a pretty good game! With such a big day behind us, it is time to focus our attention on scholarships! The Admissions Office has been processing and evaluating scholarship application for the past week and we will continue to do so as they come in. The priority deadline was February 1, 2010 but you still have time to get yours in if you haven’t yet. Also, if you have not applied for admission, please do so as soon as possible! We cannot award you any scholarships if you have not applied and been accepted.

You can find all the information concerning scholarships, including the application and the listing of what we are offering at www.bhsu.edu/schoarships. Go online and checkout all the scholarships that you might be eligible for and then you can complete the application right there. When filling out the application, we look for complete applications. Please tell as much as you can about yourself on your scholarship application. You are also more than welcome to attach letters of recommendation but it is not required and you will not be penalized for not doing so.

Look under all of the categories at all of the different types of awards available. Remember to check out the “Outside Scholarships” category as well, these are awards that have separate applications attached that you will need to complete in order to be in the running for those awards. If you have already applied for scholarships and have been accepted for admission, hang tight for a couple of weeks. We have a lot of applications to get through!

It is also a good idea to look for scholarships in other places too. Ask your guidance counselor or your principal. Go online and use search engines such as www.fastweb.com to search for other awards. You can also “Google” scholarships to see what else is out there. There are many scholarships that may not be advertised under search engines such as www.fastweb.com, so remember to do your research.

If you have further questions about BHSU scholarships or if you need any other kind of help, just let us know! Have a great week!
