Back to school. Back to school, to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool

I don't know about you guys, but I am an avid movie fan. 10 points to anyone who can guess which movie the title of this blog comes from? Make a comment on this post if you know! That particular saying is what comes to mind when thinking about this time of year, for both high school students and college students. Most of you high school students started classes on Monday, and BHSU students will start up again this Wednesday, January 13 & Thursday, January 14. Going back to school after Christmas break was always something I dreaded. However, you can look at it as being one semester closer to being finished with high school, and being ready to start your new college life at BHSU!

Like I said above, classes for the spring semester start on January 13 for classes starting at 4:00 pm and after, and January 14 for all other classes. If you will be a new student starting classes this semester, and haven't yet registered, you need to do so! Attend General Registration on January 13. Click on "General Registration" for more information on how to get signed up.

For all of you students out there who will be starting in the Fall, I am sure that your guidance counselors have starting pushing you to fill out college applications, scholarship applications, financial aid applications... APPLICATIONS, APPLICATIONS, APPLICATIONS! Stay calm... it will all be OK! We are here to help you with any questions or concerns you may have about any of those lovely applications. Just give us a call at 1-800-ALL-BHSU or email us at admissions@bhsu.edu. We would love to hear from you.

I have received a few key questions from students lately, and I thought that I would set the record straight using the blog to do so.
1) When will I receive my residence hall application? Many of you are excited and anxious to fill out this form and find out where you will be living starting this fall. This is very understandable! If you are an accepted student now, you will receive your residence hall app. this spring. As soon as you get that puppy, I would suggest that you fill it out, and send it back ASAP in order to get your hall of choice as your residence. Don't forget the $100 security deposit!
2) When will I hear back about any scholarships that I may receive? We unfortunately do not have a magic date in which scholarships will be definitely awarded. By March, our first round of award letters will be sent out. We will continue to send out scholarships all throughout the spring, summer and right up until school starts in the fall. If you have any questions, let us know! We have covered this in the blog before, but don't forget to fill out your scholarship app at www.bhsu.edu/scholarships by the priority deadline February 1, 2010.
3) When will I sign up for classes? New Student Days will be held during the summer months of May, June, July & August. Nine dates will be available to pick from, each lasting just through the morning. Stay tuned for the exact dates. When you leave campus that day after attending NSR, you will officially become a BHSU student! Go Jackets!

One last thing~ I have noticed that we only have one follower on our blog. Here's a shout out to baby_lala_777! :) There has to be more of you out there reading this thing, right? If you are reading this blog, let us know! The first 10 people that email me at Maria.Hartung@bhsu.edu and let me know that you are a reader of this blog will receive something "BHSU" from us!! You don't want to miss out!

Later!

The Wait

I know that you all have been waiting with baited breath to find out what my New Year’s Resolution is. At first, when I was writing last weeks blog, I thought oh I will just do a pseudo resolution – no one will know if I did it or not and well, I am usually not very good at keeping them. But then I thought of one that is great and really important to me so I am going to try my hardest to stay committed to it. You will have to wait just a few paragraphs more to find out what it is though; we have some business to take care of first.

Black Hills State University is still accepting applications for the Spring 2010 Semester. There is still time to get everything in line and start classes on January 13. If you have not yet registered for courses for the upcoming semester, we invite you to attend General Registration on January 13. There are two sessions available: 8:30am and 10:30am, if you have applied the BHSU and been accepted, go ahead and register for Gen Reg at www.BHSU.edu/RegisterNow. The Office of Admissions is really working hard on getting applications taken care of and we are excited to greet you on January 13!

For students in High School – welcome back to classes! It has been a crazy week with the weather here in SD so some of you had a couple of unexpected days off.
