It's amazing how quickly one semester can fly by! We are already in the middle of finals week for the Fall 2012 semester here at Black Hills State University, and most students have already registered for their Spring classes at BHSU.
Are you considering starting at BHSU for the first time in January, or returning after some time away?
If you are still thinking about taking classes here at BHSU during our Spring 2013 semester, there is still time. The clock is ticking, but it is still definitely possible for you to get everything in place and registered for Spring classes. Our Spring semester classes begin on the evening of January 9, 2013, with the first full day of classes scheduled for January 10, 2013.
Applying for admission to BHSU is your first very important step, if you haven't already done so. You can apply for admission to BHSU online at https://apply.sdbor.edu/login.cfm or you can start the admissions process by contacting an Admissions Counselor at BHSU at 605-642-6343.
If you have already applied for admission for the Spring semester, but haven't sent in your high school or college transcripts or GED scores - the time is now. As soon as those are received, they will allow the Admissions Office to move forward and make an admissions decision on your application.
Already accepted to BHSU for the Spring semester and wondering what to do next?
If you have already received a letter of acceptance for the Spring 2013 semester and need to get registered for classes, call the BHSU Student Success Center at 605-642-6951 to schedule a registration appointment as soon as possible.
There is still time to get enrolled at BHSU for the Spring semester and the Admissions Office is here to help you through the process. If you have questions or if we can be of any assistance in helping you get all of your loose ends tied up for the Spring 2013 semester at BHSU, please just let us know. We'll be happy to help!

Got Financial Aid?
As many of you know the FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Aid is a very important piece of your college preparation puzzle, as well as throughout your college career. So let’s start with the basics:
1.) FREE! We all enjoy free things in life so check out the FAFSA site and see what you may be eligible to receive in terms of student aid. To learn more visit: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/index.htm
2.) Why apply? Filling out the FAFSA for FREE is a great way to see if you are eligible for not only loans but also grants, scholarships and federal work study! So.. with so many opportunities you would be crazy not to give it a try, right?
3.) Time is running out! Our deadline for the FAFSA is March 1st; this is the date we would prefer to have your application submitted, but if you haven’t completed your taxes or have any other financial hold ups don’t sweat it - we are more than happy to work with you!
4.) Questions? We all have them! If you need assistance give us a call. Our financial aid office can be reached at 605-642-6145 or by email at BHSUfinancial@BHSU.edu
Good luck putting all of your new FAFSA knowledge to work!

The Benefits of Visiting Campus
For those of you who have not yet taken the time to visit our campus here at BHSU (or any other campus for that matter) we have decided to come up with a list of reasons why you should consider visiting. Drum roll please…
1. Getting the lay of the land – What better way to actually imagine yourself on a campus than touring it? We will take you through every building on campus and explain to you what sorts of courses or activities you may be partaking in within that building.
2. Meeting BHSU faculty and staff – Not only will you get to tour campus, but you will get to meet Admissions & Financial Aid staff as well as faculty, coaches and really anyone else you may want to meet while you are here.
3. Chatting with current students – Here at BHSU we pride ourselves in our knowledgeable and energetic tour guides who all happen to be current students. While visiting, you will have the opportunity to talk with this tour guide and ask any questions you may have about campus. They are the true experts when it comes to knowing all things BHSU – so we encourage you to ask away!
4. Getting a feel for BHSU & determining if it’s the right fit for you – Yes, we think that first impressions really matter and we want to make sure your first impression of BHSU is a great one. Come check out campus and visualize yourself as a Yellow Jacket.
5. Dining at The Hive! – Guests always have an opportunity to experience how well our students eat here on campus by dining in The Hive. Come and enjoy fresh pizza, Mongolian cuisine, fresh salad & veggies, and perhaps a dessert… or two!
6. Shopping at the BHSU Bookstore! – Once you experience our amazing campus, we are quite sure you will not want to leave empty handed. Make sure to stop and check out the bookstore to find all of your essential BHSU apparel and more!
7. Making Connections – Last but certainly not least, we feel that students who take the time to visit campus form connections and relationships with our faculty, staff and current students. Students who visit tend to feel more confident in their college decision & are prepared to start the school year off to a great start come August.
Need I say more…? Whether you are still in the decision making process or even committed to attending in the fall, think about taking the time to visit campus and see firsthand what we are all about.
